The professionals at Hunt Irrigation, The Water Smart Company, have developed the following checklist for bringing your sprinkler system out of hibernation.
- Purge all manual drain valves, then turn to the “closed” position before pressurizing the system
- Turn on the main system water valve slowly and allow the water to fill the pipes gradually
- After the system has been pressurized inspect the mainline and backflow device for winter damage
- Manually activate each zone valve from the controller to make sure the zone is operating electronically.
- Check the operating pressure on each zone. (low pressure indicates a line break or missing sprinkler)
- Check and clean all nozzles to ensure proper coverage
- Reprogram the controller for the Spring watering season
- (controller should be adjusted at least 3 times per season)
- Replace the controller back-up battery if necessary.
- Inspect and test rain sensor to ensure it is operating correctly and set to the proper level
